Montreal – July 25, 2016 – Workers at two Bulk Barn locations in Montreal – one on Henri Bourassa Boulevard and another on Décarie Boulevard – are the newest members of UFCW Canada Local 500 after saying “Yes!” to joining the union earlier this month.
The Bulk Barn employees work as cashiers, stock clerks, and receivers at one of the most popular bulk food retailers in Canada. They joined the union to obtain respect on the job, fair wages, improved job security, and basic benefits.
“I would like to congratulate and welcome the new members at Bulk Barn, who have shown that when workers stand together, great things can be accomplished,” says Tony Filato, the president of UFCW Canada Local 500.
“Thanks to their courage and solidarity, the Bulk Barn members now have a strong voice in the workplace, and we look forward to working on their behalf,” Brother Filato adds.
The union plans to commence bargaining with the employer very shortly.
