Alliston, Ont. – June 20, 2016 – Young workers from across Ontario recently brought their energy and passion to the second session of this year's UFCW Canada Young Workers Internship Program (YIP) in Alliston, Ontario.

Members from UFCW Canada Locals 175 & 633 and 1006A converged for a week of dynamic learning and training to build their skills and knowledge and navigate through a variety of labour-related issues, such as working collectively and union and community involvement.

Throughout the week, participants discussed how young people can make a difference in their workplace and challenge misconceptions about young workers. Together, they were able to brainstorm innovative ways to inspire co-workers to get more involved in their union. The team of young workers were also instrumental in launching the UFCW YIP Snapchat account, an emerging mobile platform that provides users with new ways to communicate.

“The Young Workers Internship Program gives participants a chance to expand their knowledge of the labour movement," says YIP coordinator Pablo Godoy. “The success of YIP is built on the energy, commitment, and hard work of its participants. Even now, in its 16th year, the YIP initiative continues to empower and engage young member-activists,” he adds.

The 2016 UFCW Canada Young Workers Internship Program will now head west for another exciting week of young labour activism in the Prairies. For more information about YIP, click here. You can also follow the program on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Snapchat (Snapcode: ufcwyip).
