Mississauga, Ont. – November 27, 2014 – UFCW Canada Local 175 members at the Maple Leaf Consumer Foods Courtney Park facility in Mississauga, Ontario have achieved a new collective agreement.
The new agreement, ratified earlier this month, includes a new work schedule configuration called an "Alternative Work Week”. Maple Leaf will also be investing between $6 - $8 million in the Mississauga facility, which will enable growth, new business, and help ensure a more stable future. As the new schedule is rolled out, it will also allow for greater production volume.
Both production and maintenance employees will see wage increases over the contract term as well increases to shift premiums for afternoon and night workers. Improved terms under the new agreement include extended health benefits now to be 100% paid by the employer; increased life insurance coverage; short-term disability increased to up 41 weeks from 15; as well as improvements to bereavement leave entitlement to provide five days paid leave for the death of a parent, spouse or child.
