Filipino Fiesta Day celebrated in Vancouver

Under a Joint Diversity Initiative, UFCW Canada Local 1518 and Overwaitea recently participated in Vancouver’s Pinoy Fiesta, which invites everyone to spend the day celebrating the vibrant Filipino culture. Thousands of families attended the colourful event in the city’s Memorial South Park.

The event began at 11 a.m. with a cultural street parade winding through neighbourhoods and the business district in Vancouver. The parade ended in the park, where a large stage showcased Filipino singers, musicians and dancers from Vancouver, Winnipeg and all the way from Manila. The Diversity Booth stood amongst dozens of other tents, offering prizes and raffle draws for thousands of participants throughout the morning and afternoon.

This year’s festival was the city’s third annual Filipino Fiesta and Cultural Street Parade. The event has become the largest Filipino community event in B.C.
