New webCampus courses for the New Year!

2011 was a successful year for webCampus with new courses in both English and French launched almost every month, and a record number of subscribers enjoyed the freedom of studying at their own time and own pace at no cost. Since it was launched in 2009, webCampus has become a very popular life changing program – not just among UFCW Canada members but also their families and the union’s community allies.

New programs will be launched in February this year, so check it out!

The following new course, running February through March, is available in English:

Human Rights and Diversity

February 7 – March 5, 2012

Course Description: This course is intended to broaden the understanding and the importance of diversity in the workplace. Participants will learn how to respect, and hopefully appreciate the differences and similarities in our organization; they will also learn skills to develop and encourage a workplace climate that appreciates human rights.

The following new course, running February through March, is available in French:

Ergonomics in retail stores (L’ergonomie dans les épiceries)

Februay 7– March 5, 2012 (du 7 février au 5 mars 2012)

Course Description: Grocery stores provide a vital service to the public, and are a major source of employment in North America. In recent years, the efforts of employers, unions and workers have resulted in fewer occupational injuries and illnesses.

This course is designed to help participants understand, identify, control or eliminate the job demands that can lead to musculoskeletal injuries (MSIs) through ergonomics.

It does this by helping to reach the following goals:

•           Understand what musculoskeletal injuries are and how they affect the body.

•           Identify the risk factors in work activities that contribute to the development of MSIs.

•           Understand and apply basic ergonomic design/redesign principles in order to control or eliminate the risks factors in the workplace.

Registration is now open. To register for the new February courses, and to find out more about webCampus, visit www.ufcw.ca/webcampus, or call toll-free at 1-866-865-0202.
