Tell Stephen Harper to take real responsibility: Resign!

Ottawa – May 23, 2013 – With every shameful revelation, Canadians are finding out the true depth of the Conservative Senate scandal and the central role of the Stephen Harper government in the growing national embarrassment and disgrace of Parliament that is outraging Canadians of all political stripes.

Toronto – May 23, 2013 – Just in time for summer, a new Heat Stress Awareness Tool is now available to all UFCW Canada activists and members to raise awareness of the dangers posed by hot and humid weather at work.

Toronto – May 22, 2013 – The International Labour Organization (ILO), the United Nations' international body on labour rights, has released a report regarding the application of ILO conventions. It gave the Stephen Harper government and the provincial governments of Alberta and Ontario failing grades with respect to labour rights for agriculture workers.

Montréal – May 21, 2013 – UFCW Canada Local 500 is happy to report that a new collective agreement has been signed at IGA in Varennes. Following a vote that was held at a general meeting on March 25, 2013, the employees at this food market adopted the agreement-in-principle to which their bargaining committee had come. The new seven-year collective agreement that Local 500 and the employer concluded, which is basically a renewal of the previous one, has officially been adopted and will apply until April 2020. 

Toronto – May 20, 2013 – The National Council of Canada’s leading union, UFCW Canada, recently met in Toronto to review the achievements of national organizing and outreach programs, and to discuss the crucial importance of uniting UFCW Canada’s strength with other progressive organizations in stopping Ultra-Conservative politicians from passing anti-worker legislation.
