St. John’s, Nfld. – March 1, 2013 – Eden Bradley is one of 18 BDM Scholarships recipients for 2012. Eden is the daughter of proud UFCW Canada Local 1252 Member, and Union Steward, Robert Bradley who works at the Delta Hotel in St. John’s, Newfoundland.
Toronto – February 28, 2013 – To commemorate this year’s International Women’s Day, marked on March 8 every year, UFCW Canada is proud to assist Local Unions, activists, friends and supporters in celebrating this important day of recognition and achievement through a new poster that is now freely available for sharing in workplaces, schools and social media networks.
Montreal – February 27, 2013 – Several thousands of demonstrators took to the streets throughout Quebec on February 23rd to protest against the new employment insurance reforms imposed by the Harper government. From Montréal to Sept-Îles, to Quebec City, Trois-Rivières, Sherbrooke and Rimouski, numerous UFCW Canada members in Quebec gathered and added their voices to those of various groups that were speaking out about the plundering of the employment insurance system.
Winnipeg – February 26, 2013 – Tyrone Hofer is one of the 18 BDM Scholarships recipients for 2012. Brother Hofer is a proud member of UFCW Canada Local 832 who works at the Real Canadian Superstore in Winnipeg, Manitoba.
Toronto – February 26, 2013 – The event was called "Girl Power", but the audience was almost equally comprised of men and women students at the recent gathering held at Toronto's Ryerson University. The seminar, sponsored by UFCW Canada Local 1000A, was organized by B-2026. This group of Ryerson students — including Kanisha Clark who is also a Local 1000A member at No Frills — wants to advance the goal that by 2026, 30% of Canada's political posts will be filled by women.
Montreal – February 25, 2013 – UFCW Canada Local 500 president Antonio Filato proudly presented Dominic Chartrand – the son of Céline Dupuis, who works at the produce department at Super C in Lachute – with a $1,000 scholarship. Sister Dupuis has been working under Metro banners for 13 years.
Toronto – February 24, 2013 – Workers’ Compensation Boards/Commissions exist across Canada to help injured workers return to work as quickly and as safely as possible, while providing financial compensation for wages lost due to their workplace injury.
