Video Contest: One Minute to Tell the World how "Fairness Works"

Video Contest: One Minute to Tell the World how "Fairness Works"Ottawa – January 24, 2014 – UFCW Canada members are encouraged to participate in an exciting video contest that tells the world what fairness means to you, your family, and your community — in one minute or less.

Now in its third year, the One Minute Message Video Contest asks participants to create a positive, feel-good video in under 60 seconds that explains how unions stand up for fairness, deliver good jobs and better lives, and work for a better deal for everyone. The video needs to be inspiring and should clearly communicate the message that "together, fairness works."

For over a generation, Canadians have been told that unions have outlived their usefulness in society. In fact, last year's contest winner pointed out that unions are even blamed for bad weather. So the contest is seeking videos that show how important unions remain to building a strong middle class and a better way of life in Canada.

"The winning video will be one that effectively shows how unions remain the best way for working people to get a fair deal, decent wages, safe and health workplaces, and fairness and respect at work," the contest website explains.

Submitted videos will be scored by an expert panel of judges that includes filmmaker Colleen Ayoup, social media whiz Gabriela Warrior Renaud, video producer Tyler Pearce, and communications specialist Ian Capstick. The five videos with the highest scores will be showcased on the contest website and made eligible to win a grand prize of $2000.00.

All video entries must be received and accepted by the Canadian Labour Congress (CLC) by March 13, 2014 in order to be selected. Last year's entries are available for viewing here.
