Vancouver – November 4, 2013 – UFCW Canada Local 247 and Local 1518 activists and their family members recently joined more than 2,500 other participants for the 9th Annual Vancouver Light the Night Walk. The fundraising event was in support of the lifesaving research efforts of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of Canada (LLSC).

The UFCW Canada BC team was once again a Platinum Sponsor of the walk, which this year took place in Vancouver's Stanley Park. The participants carried illuminated lanterns which symbolized their relation to the cause; a white lantern for blood cancer survivors, a red lantern to walk as a supporter, and a gold lantern in memory of a loved one.

Through its efforts and sponsorship, the UFCW BC team raised just over $60,000. The total event raised just over $578,500.

Since adopting the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of Canada (LLSC) in the 1980s as their charity of choice, UFCW Canada members and Local Unions across Canada have together raised over $28.7 million for research into finding a cure and better treatments for leukemia, lymphoma and other blood cancers.
