Toronto – July 24, 2013 – UFCW Canada families, friends and supporters kicked off the 2013 Caribana season in Toronto on July 20 with a fun-filled night of music, dancing and raffle prizes at the UFCW Canada Local 1993 annual Summer Splash.

Once again, all money raised by the event, and the union’s other Caribana activities, will be donated to the Faces of Our Children (dedicated to sickle cell disease research), and the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society of Canada.

Earlier in the day, UFCW Canada families also took part in the Junior Carnival, which gives young Masqueraders a day of their own to dance through the streets in their brightly coloured costumes.

UFCW Canada’s participation in the Caribana season culminates in a massive parade along Toronto’s Lakeshore Boulevard that draws more than a million spectators and participants.

This year’s Toronto Caribana parade will take place on Saturday, August 3 where UFCW Canada will once again join its long-time community partner, and multi-award winning Mas Band, the Louis Saldenah Mas-K Club.
