Toronto – April 5, 2013 – Communities across Ontario are calling on Premier Kathleen Wynne to designate Tuesday, April 9 as Equal Pay Day, as a first step to closing the 28 percent gender pay gap that still exists in the province.

To help support this important call for fairness, activists are encouraged to send a letter to Premier Wynne and to wear RED on April 9 – to mark how far women remain in the "RED" when it comes to their pay.

The Ontario Equal Pay Coalition has declared Tuesday, April 9, 2013 as Equal Pay Daybecause itillustrates how many extra days into the next year an Ontario woman must work, in order to earn the same amount a man made in the previous year.

The pay gap is not only unfair, but it also hurts our communities and economy. Ontario’s economy works because women work. Closing the pay gap will help create good jobs, stimulate the economy, increase productivity and competitiveness, and attract the most talented workers.

Send a Letter to Premier Wynne to declare Tuesday, April 9 this year’s Equal Pay Day!
