Workers at Plaza Premium Lounge join the union – UFCW 832
Winnipeg – March 2, 2020 – Restaurant workers at the Plaza Premium Lounge in the Winnipeg International Airport are the newest members of UFCW Local 832 after recently voting to join the union.
The new members work inside the lounge, making the traveller's experience less stressful and more enjoyable by providing food and drink service in a relaxing environment.
"After constant late payment issues, as well as sick leave problems and missed overtime pay, workers at the Plaza Premium Lounge decided to unionize," says Jeff Traeger, President of UFCW Local 832. "Now they will have a voice at the bargaining table and a way to address issues in the workplace with a strong collective agreement,” he adds.
The union will meet with the workers in the coming weeks to arrange their first proposal meeting, form a bargaining committee, and work towards their first collective agreement.
