Hospitality workers at Comfort Inn join the union – UFCW 175

Kenora, Ont. – December 6, 2019 – Hospitality workers at the Comfort Inn hotel in Kenora, Ontario are the newest members of UFCW Local 175 after recently voting to join the union.

Following an organizing campaign that lasted roughly two months, the Comfort Inn workers cast their ballots in an electronic vote to become members of UFCW. They joined the union to improve their working conditions and address issues around seniority, job security, and just cause protection. The workers also want to bargain together to achieve better wages and benefits.

Approximately seventeen employees working in housekeeping and maintenance, at the front desk, and as night auditors form the bargaining unit.

“Congratulations to the new members, and welcome to your union,” says Shawn Haggerty, President of UFCW Local 175.
