UFCW celebrates Toronto Caribbean Carnival

Toronto – August 7, 2019 – UFCW Canada activists and family members joined hundreds of thousands of revelers on August 3, for the 52nd Annual Toronto Caribbean Carnival Grand Parade. The three-week long Carnival, also known as Caribana, is a celebration of life, music, food and Caribbean culture, and is capped off by a spectacular parade along Toronto’s lakeshore.

The parade scene is always a marvelous display of colours, costume and festivity as participants compete in grand fashion. In the tradition of celebrating Caribbean emancipation, revelers take from folkloric tales and parade generations of cultural pride along the Lakeshore Boulevard route. Many months are spent by volunteers hand-crafting costumes, affixing ornaments to floats and delegating revelers to dance down the parade route, all in the hopes of winning the coveted Band of the Year distinction.

UFCW Canada and UFCW Canada Local 1006A proudly continued their longtime support of perennial Band of the Year recipient Louis Saldenah Mas-K Club which is truly a notch above the rest. The Saldenah Mas-K Club showcased its excellence in artistry and entertainment again this year – bringing out one of largest contingents to the festival, as well as winning the Band of the Year for the 20th time since 1977!
