Hospitality members at Manitoulin Hotel & Conference Centre win gainsLittle Current, Ont. – March 16, 2019 –  UFCW Canada Local 1006A members working at the Manitoulin Hotel & Conference Centre in Little Current, Ontario have achieved a new union contract that provides wage gains, better benefits, and more.

The new contract covers 55 members and runs until December 2022. Negotiations were led by UFCW 1006A Union Representative Ric Pereira, with support from members Autumn Abotossaway and Sandy Bisonnette.

Highlights of the new agreement include:

"This is a good contact, as we made improvements from the first agreement and the bargaining committee did a great job in negotiations,” says Abotossaway.

Abotossaway adds that members are particularly happy with the significant increase in reimbursements for health benefit claims. She is also glad that housekeepers will also enjoy a team lead premium.

“We are proud of the excellent job that our bargaining committee did in negotiating a strong contract for members at the Manitoulin Hotel & Conference Centre,” says Wayne Hanley, President of UFCW 1006A. “Our union has an excellent track record of representing workers in the hotel and hospitality industries and this contract demonstrates the value that UFCW provides to members,” he adds.
