Workers at The Beer Store Contact Centre join the union – UFCW 12R24

London, Ont. – January 18, 2019 – Workers at The Beer Store Contact Centre in London, Ontario are the newest members of UFCW Canada Local 12R24 after recently voting to join the union. The Contact Centre is the principal point of contact for all customer service and business inquiries for The Beer Store’s retail and logistics operations throughout Ontario.

The three-dozen employees working at the centre provide troubleshooting, customer service, order intake, and logistics services to breweries, licensees, and retail locations across Ontario. They joined the union to address concerns regarding turnover, favouritism, and respect and dignity in the workplace.

“By joining the union, the sisters and brothers at The Beer Store Contact Centre have taken a very important step towards improving their workplace,” says John Nock, President of UFCW Canada Local 12R24.

“Working at the Contact Centre is extremely difficult and demanding, and we are committed to ensuring that members have a safe and respectful workplace that compensates them fairly. This isn’t about The Beer Store, or even about the union – it is about the workers and the families they support.”

“I want to congratulate the new members on their successful campaign to join the union, and also give special recognition to UFCW Canada Organizers Laura Pena and Nathalie Vengal, as well as UFCW 12R24 Recorder Craig McDowell,” he adds.

UFCW Canada Local 12R24 represents over 6,000 employees working at The Beer Store in the province of Ontario. To learn more about UFCW 12R24 and its outstanding work, visit the Local Union’s website.
