2012 BDM Scholarship Winner: Vanessa Menendez, Local 500

Montreal – January 21, 2013 – We are pleased to announce that Vanessa Menendez has won one of the $1,000 scholarships offered to UFCW Canada members and their children who are pursuing full-time studies in a recognized university, college or any other post-secondary educational institution. Ms. Menendez has been working for five and a half years as cashier at the Metro Denigil in Laval, Quebec, where she has been acting as supervisor for the past three years.

Local 500 union representative Virginie Sauvé-Lemay had the pleasure of presenting the 2012 UFCW Canada Beggs-Dowling-Mathieu scholarship to Vanessa who is currently in her second year of a three-year Bachelor’s degree in English literature at Concordia University.  

Once Vanessa completes her studies at Concordia University, she plans to undertake a one-year Bachelor’s degree in education at the University of Ottawa which will allow her to teach students at the elementary, secondary and college levels.
