Hospitality members at Grail Springs Retreat win first contract – UFCW 1006A

Bancroft, Ont. – January 8, 2019 – UFCW Canada Local 1006A members working at Grail Springs Retreat in Bancroft, Ontario have ratified their first union contract, winning big gains in wages, benefits, and more.

Grail Springs Retreat is a holistic health and wellness centre specializing in spa and healing therapies, yoga, meditation, and other services. The centre also features an inn and restaurant for guests. Members at the centre work as guest service representatives, housekeepers, kitchen staff, and servers.

The new collective agreement runs until November 2021 and covers more than 20 workers.

Under the three-year contract, members will see wage increases in each year of the agreement and will receive an annual personal wellness day providing access to all Grail Springs services (with a friend or family member). Workers will also gain one floating holiday per year and enjoy a new group benefits package.

“The solidarity of the Grail Springs members in achieving a fair first agreement was truly inspiring,” says UFCW 1006A President Wayne Hanley. “Through great courage and determination, the members have improved their workplace,” he adds.
