Restaurant members at Tim Horton’s ratify first contract, UFCW 1006A

Canada's food workers betrayed by USMCA and its impact on dairy and poultry sectors Oshawa, Ont. – October 5, 2018 – Compass Group workers and UFCW Local 1006A members at Tim Horton’s in Oshawa, Ontario recently ratified their first union contract.

The new three-year deal includes a number of gains for the restaurant members, including wage increases, job posting language, secured benefits, overtime language recognizing seniority, health and safety language, and protection against discrimination and harassment.

The new UFCW contract covers Tim Hortons members who work at the Oshawa courthouse, and the union committee included Hailey Ivey, Roland Lapins, and Carla MacFarlane.

“This first contract provides members with a strong foundation to build upon for the future,” says UFCW 1006A President Wayne Hanley. “1006A members at Compass Group (Tim Hortons) have shown that solidarity and courage are the keys to achieving fairness at the negotiating table. We look forward to working side by side with members to improve their rights and livelihoods now and into the future.”
