UFCW 1400 members make a difference at Saskatoon school

Saskatoon, Sask. – May 5, 2018 – UFCW Canada Local 1400 members working at Ardent Mills recently partnered with Saskatoon’s St. Michael Community School for a mentorship program aimed at providing positive role models and nutritious meals for at-risk youth.

As part of the Healthy Lunch Program, UFCW 1400 members and staff assisted students with reading skills and organized a community barbeque for the children, serving food purchased from the UFCW 1400-represented Saskatoon Cooperative. The Cooperative also donated gift cards in support of the program. Following the barbeque, activists then joined students for an afternoon full of reading, learning, and fun.

“Our union was honoured to partner with St. Michael Community School to help mentor students and engage in a full-filled day of learning,” says Norm Neault, the President of UFCW Canada Local 1400. “UFCW 1400 believes in giving back to the community and initiatives like the Healthy Lunch Program are an important part of that,” he adds.
