UFCW Canada supports striking faculty at York University

UFCW Canada supports striking faculty at York UniversityToronto – March 12, 2018 – UFCW Canada is standing in full solidarity with striking teaching assistants, contract faculty, and graduate assistants at Toronto’s York University.

Recently, UFCW Canada activists joined striking members of CUPE 3903 and affiliates from the Ontario Federation of Labour on the picket line at a solidarity rally at the university campus.

CUPE 3903 is fighting for guaranteed funding for non-tenured teaching assistants, job security for contract faculty, the restoration of 800 eliminated graduate assistant jobs, and the prioritizing of equity, anti-racism, and anti-sexual violence on campus.

“Educators play an important role in shaping the lives of students,” says UFCW Canada National President Paul Meinema. “UFCW Canada stands with CUPE 3903 members because we believe that educators and all workers deserve to be treated with respect, dignity, and fairness on the job.”
