UFCW Canada Local 247 activists prep for Safeway-Sobeys bargaining Burnaby, B.C. – November 24, 2017 – UFCW Canada Local 247 members met in Burnaby from November 20 to 21 to review and discuss proposals for the upcoming round of negotiations with Safeway-Sobeys.

“We had a couple of very good days talking about the contract improvements that members want to bring to the bargaining table," says Suzanne Hodge, President of UFCW Canada Local 247. "We reviewed the proposals that members submitted in every area of the contract, and are looking forward to getting to the bargaining table with the employer,” she adds.

At this time, no dates have been set to begin negotiations.

"We had presentations on Final Offer Selection arbitration and the pension plan, and it's terrific to be able to have extended conversations with the members and get feedback on what really matters," says President Hodge. "Contract negotiations are an opportunity, and while we don't anticipate negotiations will begin until the New Year, we'll be continuing to prepare for what promises to be an important round of negotiations."
