UFCW Canada – BDM Scholarship winner: Simon Diersch, UFCW 247

Burnaby, B.C. – May 9, 2017 – Simon Diersch is one of eighteen UFCW Canada – BDM Scholarship winners for 2016.

Currently completing his Bachelor of Arts in History at Simon Fraser University in Burnaby, British Columbia, Simon is a proud UFCW Canada Local 247 member who works at Safeway.  

Brother Diersch had the following to say about winning a UFCW Canada – BDM Scholarship:

“I am so happy to have been chosen as a recipient of this scholarship. A post-secondary education has been a long-time goal of mine, and I hope to give back to my community when I graduate. The cost of paying for tuition and books adds up quickly, and the UFCW Canada – BDM Scholarship will go a long way in helping me cover those expenses. Thank you UFCW!” 

Every year UFCW Canada offers a total of 18 union scholarships worth $1,000 each to members, their spouses, and dependants for post-secondary education. The BDM Scholarship was created to honour past UFCW leaders William Beggs, Fred Dowling, and Romeo Mathieu.
