Workers at Leuschen Transportation join the union – UFCW 175Timmins, Ont. – April 21, 2017 – Workers at Leuschen Transportation in Timmins, Ontario are the newest members of UFCW Canada Local 175 after recently voting to join the union.

“The Leuschen Transportation workers faced great adversity from the employer when trying to join the union,” says UFCW Canada Local 175 Organizer Farman Ali. “But they made it clear that, despite management’s threats and intimidation, they wanted to have their voices heard and taken seriously by the company,” he adds.

The new members at Leuschen Transportation, a school bus transportation company, were strongly united in their effort to achieve better wages and job security by joining UFCW. They also want to be treated with respect on the job, and wish to address concerns of harassment and favouritism in the workplace.

“UFCW Canada Local 175 is a great fit for the workers at Leuschen Transportation,” says Shawn Haggerty, President of UFCW Canada Local 175. “Joining the union will improve their working conditions, and we look forward to working with the new members to achieve that goal,” he adds.
