UFCW Canada – BDM Scholarship winner: Harindu Gunasekara, UFCW 401

Calgary – January 16, 2017 – Harindu Gunasekara is one of eighteen UFCW Canada – BDM Scholarship winners for 2016. 

Currently enrolled in the Bachelor of Science program at the University of Calgary’s Schulich School of Engineering, Harindu is a proud UFCW Canada Local 401 member who works at the Real Canadian Superstore.

Brother Gunasekara had the following to say about winning a UFCW Canada – BDM Scholarship:

“This scholarship will be a major help to me as I am currently paying for school through student loans, and working part-time at the Superstore. It will lower my debt burden and allow me to focus more of my energy on excelling at school. I am very grateful to be a recipient of the UFCW Canada – BDM Scholarship. Thank you UFCW!”

Every year UFCW Canada offers a total of 18 union scholarships worth $1,000 each to members, their spouses, and dependants for post-secondary education. The BDM scholarship was created to honour past UFCW leaders William Beggs, Fred Dowling, and Romeo Mathieu.
