UFCW Canada – BDM Scholarship winner: Lauren Karl, UFCW 12R24

Brampton, Ont. – January 3, 2017 – Lauren Karl is one of eighteen UFCW Canada – BDM Scholarship winners for 2016.

Currently enrolled in the Forensic Science program at Trent University, Lauren is a proud UFCW Canada Local 12R24 member who works at The Beer Store.

Sister Karl had the following to say about winning a UFCW Canada – BDM Scholarship:

“Winning this scholarship means a lot to me. It will allow me to pay off my student loans, and continue working toward my career goals. My ultimate goal is to become a crime scene investigator, and that is why I am enrolled in the Forensic Science program. After I graduate this year, I plan to apply to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police and the Ontario Provincial Police force to pursue my dream career.”

Every year UFCW Canada offers a total of 18 union scholarships worth $1,000 each to members, their spouses, and dependants for post-secondary education. The BDM scholarship was created to honour past UFCW leaders William Beggs, Fred Dowling, and Romeo Mathieu.
