UFCW Canada members Light the Night from coast to coast

Vancouver, Ottawa, and Toronto – October 24, 2016 – Red, gold, and white lanterns lit up the night sky from coast to coast last week as activists from UFCW Canada Locals 247, 1518, 175, and 1006A came together for Light the Night walks in Vancouver, Ottawa, and Toronto.
The Vancouver walk took place on October 22 with UFCW Canada Local 247 and 1518 activists and family members marching through Stanley Park, waving lanterns and raising more than $30,000 for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of Canada (LLSC). In Ottawa, meanwhile, UFCW Canada Locals 175 and 1006A activists walked through Lansdowne Park, raising more than $28,000 for the LLSC’s life-saving efforts to fight leukemia, lymphoma, and other blood cancers.
Earlier in the week, UFCW Canada Local 1006A activists and family members, along with UFCW fundraising allies from The Beer Store, converged at Nathan Phillips Square in Toronto for an evening full of light, solidarity, and hope at the city’s annual Light the Night walk. Participants illuminated the night sky, bringing light into the dark world of cancer and raising tens of thousands of dollars in support of the important work of the LLSC.
The monies raised at Light the Night walks help fund LLSC programs aimed at raising awareness, providing patient and family services, and funding research into finding a cure for leukemia, lymphoma, and other blood cancers.
Since adopting the LLSC as our union’s charity of choice in 1985, UFCW Canada members and staff have raised over $36 million for the LLSC.
