Light the Night Walk illuminates the Prairies in support of LLSC

Red Deer, Alta, Saskatoon, Sask. & Winnipeg – October 4, 2016 – UFCW Canada activists across the Prairies recently gathered in Red Deer, Alberta, Saskatoon, Saskatchewan and Winnipeg, Manitoba for annual Light the Night walks in support of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of Canada (LLSC).

In Red Deer, UFCW Canada Local 401 and Local 1118 activists and family members converged at Bower Ponds for an evening full of light, solidarity and hope at the annual Red Deer Community Walk. Participants illuminated the night sky bringing light into the dark world of cancer and raised funds in support of the life changing efforts of the LLSC.

In Saskatoon, activists from UFCW Canada Local 1400 carried illuminated gold, red, and white lanterns through Kiwanis Park. The UFCW 1400 Leukemia Bashers team, comprised of Local 1400 activists and family members, added thousands of dollars more into the fundraising efforts of the LLSC.

On the same night in Winnipeg, the UFCW Canada Local 832 team gathered at The Forks Festival Park and Stage for Winnipeg's fourth annual Light the Night Walk. Participants walked along a five-kilometre route to bring help and hope to the more than 100,000 Canadians affected by blood cancer. Together, UFCW Canada Local 832 activists and their family members were able to raise thousands in the fight against blood cancers.

Since adopting the LLSC as the charity of choice over 30 years ago, UFCW Canada activists, family, and friends have raised over $36 million dollars for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of Canada.
