UFCW Canada activists Light the Night in Edmonton and Quebec City

Edmonton and Quebec City – September 28, 2016 – UFCW Canada activists from across the country recently joined thousands of participants for the annual Light the Night walks in Edmonton and Quebec City to raise awareness and funds for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of Canada (LLSC).

In Edmonton, activists from UFCW Canada Local 1118 and UFCW Canada Local 401 gathered at the William Hawrelak Park to take part in the annual Edmonton walk. Now in its 10th year, participants walked in solidarity to bring help and hope to the more than 100,000 Canadians affected by blood cancers.

In Quebec City, on the same night, UFCW Canada activists and their families joined thousands more carrying illuminated lanterns through Parc de l'Esplanade. Each lantern symbolizing the light in the dark world of cancer, red for supporters, white for patients and survivors, and gold to remember loved ones lost.

Together, the fundraising efforts added thousands of dollars more for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of Canada (LLSC). The money raised from Light the Night walks across Canada help fund vital patient support services, advocacy and lifesaving research.

Since adopting the LLSC as the charity of choice over 30 years ago, UFCW Canada activists, family, and friends have raised over $36 million dollars for the LLSC.
