November 26 by-elections for Calgary Centre, Durham and Victoria: Make your vote count!

Federal by-elections have been called in the ridings of Calgary Centre, Durham, and Victoria for November 26, which means UFCW Canada members and their families have an opportunity to tell Stephen Harper's Conservative Government that Canadians want a Parliament that will stand up for working families.

The Harper government has openly disregarded workers and their unions and has denied Canada Post and Air Canada workers their basic right to collectively bargain. The Conservatives are also moving ahead with Bill C-377 – a direct attack on the ability of unions to represent their members and an invasion of union members' privacy.

Harper’s changes to Employment Insurance, expansion of the use of temporary foreign workers, cuts to international aid groups that speak out against government policy, silencing of those who advocate for the environment, and dramatic gutting of services that UFCW Canada members rely on are hurting our country. The Conservatives continue to buy expensive fighter jets and lavish further tax cuts on big oil companies and banks while telling workers and their families that they must accept less. This reckless behaviour is leading us toward another painful recession that Canadians cannot afford.

We need to send a message to the Harper Conservatives. All UFCW members in Calgary Centre, Durham, and Victoria are encouraged to get out and vote for the New Democratic Party (NDP) candidate in their riding. Thomas Mulcair and the NDP are the real opposition to Stephen Harper’s Conservatives and the best alternative to the government's anti-worker agenda.

UFCW Canada members are encouraged to volunteer for the NDP candidate in their respective riding. The Conservatives rely on their corporate friends to buy votes, but the grassroots members of our union can help Thomas Mulcair and the NDP win more seats in Parliament and eventually form government. So why not volunteer and be a part of the NDP's inspiring mission to help working families?
