Toronto – August 16, 2016 –  United Way Centraide Canada has named UFCW Canada as a 2016 recipient of its prestigious “Thanks a Million” Award, which is presented annually to labour organizations and corporations that demonstrate an extraordinary commitment to the United Way and its noble causes.

Through their combined efforts last year, UFCW Canada members raised over $1 million for the United Way, a well-established and respected non-profit organization that works to lift people out of poverty, help children achieve their full potential, and promote healthy life opportunities for all Canadians.

"This award is a testament to UFCW members' dedication to making a lasting difference in their communities," says UFCW Canada National President Paul Meinema. "Across Canada, the United Way works to improve the lives of disenfranchised Canadians, build better and stronger communities, and create opportunities for people struggling to move out of poverty, and our union is proud to support their excellent work in these areas," he adds.

The Thanks a Million Award was formally presented to UFCW Canada earlier this month. In addition, UFCW Canada's contribution has been recognized in the United Way’s Thanks a Million poster, which can be downloaded here.
