UFCW Canada – BDM Scholarship winner: Ellen James

UFCW Canada – BDM Scholarship winner: Ellen James, UFCW 1006ALondon, Ont. – June 24, 2016 – Ellen James is one of eighteen UFCW Canada - BDM Scholarship winners for 2015.

Currently studying Chemical Engineering at Western University in London, Ontario, Ellen is a proud UFCW Canada Local 1006A member who works at Real Canadian Superstore.

Sister James had the following to say about winning a UFCW Canada - BDM Scholarship:

"Thank you for this generous scholarship. I have worked at the Real Canadian Superstore since I was 15-years-old, learning beneficial life skills and earning money for university. I hope to leave university with as little debt as possible and winning this scholarship helps me reach my goal. Once I finish my degree, I hope to work in the engineering industry and one day, I hope that I can make someone as happy as I was when I received this award, by giving back to my community and the people around me."

Every year UFCW Canada offers a total of 18 union scholarships worth $1,000 each to members, their spouses, and dependants for post-secondary education. The BDM scholarship was created to honour past UFCW leaders William Beggs, Fred Dowling, and Romeo Mathieu.
