Reconciliation: We are all part of the solution
UFCW Canada supports reconciliation initiatives in Canada. Severe and irreversible injustices have led to the systemic discrimination against and exploitation of indigenous peoples in every social and economic sphere. As the leading private sector union in the country, UFCW Canada represents over a quarter of a million workers employed in more than twenty-six sectors of the Canadian economy. In support of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s (TRC) document, Calls to Action, our union has taken aggressive measures to ensure that reconciliation principles are embedded in our workplace practices across Canada.
Reconciliation in the Workplace Poster
The poster relays UFCW Canada’s position on reconciliation issues and is intended to promote inclusion in the workplace. In honour of the closing ceremonies of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission in June 2015, our union launched the UFCW Canada Reconciliation in the Workplace poster in partnership with the First Nations Child and Family Caring Society, our national partner in advancing Aboriginal child welfare justice. The poster provides an equity lens on how we can practice the principles of reconciliation through the four pillars of Truth-Telling, Acknowledging, Restoring, and Relating.
Reconciliation in the Workplace Toolkit
Entitled, Reconciliation: We Are All Part of the Solution, UFCW Canada has launched a toolkit for public use and distribution. The toolkit launch coincides with UFCW Canada programming for the June observance of Aboriginal History Month, the National Day of Reconciliation (June 11), and National Aboriginal Day (June 21).
