HRED Committees

Human Rights, Equity and Diversity (HRED) Committee

The HRED Committee has played a central role in advancing UFCW Canada’s national inclusivity agenda. The committee advises UFCW’s National Council—informing national and Local Union leadership on issues important to equity-seeking members.

The Committee also plays a central role in championing the causes of LGBTQI2S and Racialized workers and supporting members with disabilities across our national union. In addition, the committee strives to forge strong partnerships amongst like-minded organizations to strengthen its work as a national advisory body. The Committee meets bi-annually and UFCW Canada members interested in joining the work of the HRED Committee are asked to reach out to their local union regarding open positions.

Indigenous Sub-Committee

UFCW Canada’s Indigenous Sub-committee is a member-led initiative tasked with strengthening relationships between Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples in our union. The Sub-committee aims to bring together First Nation, Métis and Inuit members to share their knowledge, ceremonies and traditions to the benefit of both Indigenous and non-Indigenous members.  It also honours the diversity of Indigenous members and strengthens Indigenous representation at the bargaining table.  Bringing non-Indigenous allies into the conversation ensures that solidarity across our union is strengthened. The committee ensures UFCW Canada has the tools to fulfill the mandate of Reconciliation outlined by the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) of Canada and its accompanying Calls to Action.
