"This scholarship is very important to me as it will greatly help me in paying for some of my college fees for this year, and will also allow me to avoid taking out student loans. In this respect, the UFCW Canada BDM Scholarship will help me in achieving my goals of earning a respectable degree and graduating debt-free. It will also allow me to save money to pay for new books and other expenses that come with my education."

Every year UFCW Canada offers a total of eighteen union scholarships worth $1,000 each to members, their spouses, and dependants for post-secondary education. The BDM scholarship was created to honour past UFCW leaders William Beggs, Fred Dowling, and Romeo Mathieu.
