Picket lines go up at New Sudbury hardware store, 14 workers locked out

CBC News, Sudbury – November 12, 2015

Sudbury, Ont. – November 18, 2015 – UFCW Canada Local 175 members working at the Rona Cashway store in Sudbury, Ontario have ratified a new agreement, bringing an end to a five-day lockout by their employer.

“We are satisfied that this agreement meets the needs of our members, including retaining their right to refuse Sunday work,” explained Shawn Haggerty, President of UFCW Local 175. “The customers and community showed overwhelming support for these workers while they walked the picket line, and that show of solidarity helped resolve this labour dispute quickly.”

The tentative agreement was reached between the employer and the Union’s negotiating committee on November 16, and members held a meeting in the evening to review the details. The memorandum of settlement was ratified unanimously.
