Massey Wholesale workers ratify new contract – UFCW 175Massey, Ont. – November 5, 2015 – UFCW Canada Local 175 members working at Massey Wholesale Ltd. have voted “Yes” to a new three-year contract. Massey Wholesale is a wholesale retail outlet for restaurants and retail customers located in Northern Ontario.

The new agreement features wage increases over the life of the contract by classification, including a total of 7% for transportation workers, 5.5% for office and warehouse workers, and 5.5% for part-time workers. In addition, the premium for freezer shifts increases to $1.25 per hour, up from $1.

Members will also receive an increase in their pension contributions to 2.75% and increases to both vision care and contact lens coverage to $150.

There are also improvements to contract language including additional bereavement days, pay-out for unused sick days, paid lunches for warehouse workers, two personal days, and a reduction in the years of service required for vacation entitlement.

The boot/shoe allowance for full and part-time workers improves to $125, up from $110, and the meal allowance for drivers on overnight runs increases to $40.

The employer has also agreed to pay 50% of the cost of printing contract books for the members and will contribute $500 toward the UFCW Canada Local 175 Education & Training Fund.

The union negotiating committee included Denis Duff, Kevin Goddard, Wanda Hall and union representative Lionel MacEachern.
