Members at Sofina Foods achieve new contract – UFCW 1118Edmonton – October 26, 2015 – UFCW Canada Local 1118 members working at the Lilydale Division of Sofina Foods have overwhelmingly ratified a new contract that provides wage and language improvements to members.

The Sofina Foods Lilydale facility in Edmonton specializes in the production of turkey products.

The four-year agreement has wage improvements of $1.45 per hour for the life of the agreement. Non-ticketed maintenance workers will also receive significant wage improvements of $2 to $3 per hour. Journeyman maintenance workers will also receive a wage increase in excess of 5% throughout the life of the contract. As per the new agreement, line haul drivers will also receive an 8% increase in trip rates in the first year.

The new contract also introduces a new vision care benefit. The employer also agreed to make an additional $0.20 per hour contribution to the members’ pension plan (CCWIPP).

Contract improvements were also made to language regarding shop stewards, including paid time-off-the-line while dealing with ongoing labour management issues, as well as the provision of new specific coloured hard hats.
