Harper missing on First Nations issues

Toronto – October 15, 2015 – Stephen Harper is the only federal party leader who continues to refuse the call for a national inquiry into missing and murdered indigenous women. Meanwhile, Tom Mulcair and the NDP have committed to making First Nations issues a top priority if they form government. The NDP, the Liberals. And the Green Party have also committed to a National Action Plan on Violence Against Women to reduce violence against women and girls. Harper and his caucus voted down such a plan earlier this year.

The issues of violence against women and girls has been strongly voiced by the Canadian Network of Women’s Shelters and Transition Houses, which sought input for the current Blueprint for Canada’s National Action Plan on Violence Against Women and Girls (NAP on VAW) from leading women’s organizations and advocates throughout the country, including UFCW Canada.

In the lead up to the October 19 federal election, familiarize yourself with the Blueprint for Canada’s National Action Plan on Violence Against Women and Girls (NAP on VAW). With the prospect to elect a new government in Canada, we can move forward together in ensuring the implementation of the roadmap that has been created through the development of this Blueprint.  For further information on how to endorse the Blueprint, please visit www.endvaw.ca.
