Activists Light the Night in Saskatoon

Saskatoon, Sask. – October 13, 2015 – UFCW activists and family members recently gathered in Saskatoon to help raise funds and awareness for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of Canada (LLSC) through the annual Saskatoon Light the Night walk.

Participants from UFCW Canada Locals 1400, 649, and 248P joined hundreds of walk participants to illuminate Saskatoon's Kiwanis Memorial Park on October 3, carrying lanterns symbolizing the light in the dark world of cancer. Participants had the option of carrying a white lantern for blood cancer patients and survivors, a red lantern to walk as a supporter, and a gold lantern in memory of a loved one lost.

The rain did little to dampen the spirits of a team of UFCW activists, whose combined efforts raised over $46,900 through individual pledges and employer donations.

There are currently over 100,000 people who are either living with or are a survivor of a blood cancer in Canada.

As Canada's leading union, UFCW Canada is the largest annual fundraising organization for the LLSC. Last year, UFCW Canada members, families, and friends raised a total of $2.5 million for blood cancer research and awareness.
