Calgary – September 10, 2014 – UFCW Canada activists were loud and proud at the 25th Anniversary Calgary Pride Parade. Despite the cool and rainy weather, about 60,000 spectators lined the parade route on September 6. This year’s parade was bigger than ever, with more than 100 groups parading down 9th Avenue with colourful costumes, floats, flags and banners.

For the tenth year in a row, UFCW Canada Local 401 activists made up one of the largest contingents in the parade, with the Local 401 float boldly decked out in UFCW gold and blue. More than 40 Local 401 activists and family members marched alongside, joined by Local 1118 activists, handing out whistles and mini-Frisbees to the spectators along the 12-block parade route.

The annual parade was organized by Pride Calgary, and capped off a week-long festival of dances, performances and seminars to promote equality and celebrate Calgary’s LGBTQ community.
