Annual Ride for a Cure raises $8,000 for blood cancer research, education, and outreach

Vaughan and Mississauga, Ont. – August 25, 2015 – UFCW Canada Locals 1000A and 175 & 633 recently came together to participate in the annual UFCW Ride for a Cure, raising approximately $8,000 for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society of Canada (LLSC).

Over thirty motorcycle enthusiasts and volunteers embarked on this year's Ride for a Cure, which began at UFCW Canada Local 1000A's office in Vaughan, Ontario and ended at Local 175 & 633's office in Mississauga.

"I am out for the memories of my wife," said John Paul Moroney, a proud UFCW Local 1000A member who works as a receiver at Loblaws Real Canadian Superstore in Georgetown, Ontario. "It's also about meeting friends I haven't seen in a while," he added.

To date, UFCW Canada's local unions have raised over $33.9 million dollars for blood cancer research through a wide array of events, including the annual Ride for a Cure, raffles, community picnics, 50-50 draws, car washes, sports tournaments, ride-a-thons, marathons, relays, and Light the Night walks.

The money raised at Ride for a Cure will support LLSC research to find a cure and better treatments for leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin's disease, and other blood cancers, as well as efforts to raise awareness of these diseases and reach out to those suffering from blood cancers.
