My webCampus Experience – Katia Miropolskaia, UFCW 1000A

Oakville, Ont. – May 26, 2015 – UFCW Canada members across the country are raving about the union's groundbreaking online education program, webCampus, which offers free online courses to all UFCW Canada members, their family members, and community partners.

Many UFCW Canada members and allies take webCampus courses out of personal interest, while others see them as a way to develop their knowledge and professional skills.

Katia Miropolskaia is a proud UFCW Canada Local 1000A member who has been working at the Real Canadian Superstore in Oakville, Ontario since 2011. She had the following to say about her experience taking numerous webCampus courses over the last four years:

"I noticed an advertisement for webCampus in the lunch room, and as a new employee I was looking to work on my skills, so I created a webCampus account and started taking courses.

I have completed 31 courses to date, and I plan on taking more in order to complete my Health and Safety Certificate. I also find the courses useful for my own personal development.

I especially like the webCampus courses that provide links to videos on YouTube. I created a play list for each course and watched it in my spare time, and this helped me better prepare for tests and saved me a lot of time.

Last October I started working in the Joe Fresh cosmetic department at my store. The Cosmetic Technician courses (Parts 1 and 2) provided a solid foundation for my new job and helped me to answer many different questions from customers.

Then in April, I completed my final course for the webCampus Retail Sector Specialist Certificate. I am sure I will be able to use the knowledge I obtained through this program and apply it to my work.

I am also a member of the Health and Safety Committee at my store, and the webCampus Health and Safety courses have greatly helped me in my role as a Committee member.

Finally, I am now applying my webCampus courses towards completing a Mohawk College certificate, and I also plan to take the Design Your Own Webpage & Blog course to help with my personal fashion and beauty blog. The webCampus courses have given me more knowledge, as well as the ability to face the future with confidence."
