Members at Residence Inn Mississauga achieve first contract – UFCW 206

Mississauga, Ont. – April 9, 2015 – UFCW Canada Local 206 members working at the Residence Inn Mississauga – Airport Corporate Centre West in Mississauga, Ontario have unanimously voted to ratify their first collective agreement.

The Residence Inn members work as housekeepers, restaurant and bar servers, kitchen staff, and shuttle drivers at a hotel near Toronto Pearson International Airport.

The new contract provides enhanced job security and yearly wage increases to members, as well as pension benefits, sick days, health and welfare benefits, and greater health and safety protections in the workplace. It comes at a time when employees at some other locations owned by Marriot International – the parent company of Residence Inn – have been forced to take wage freezes.

"This agreement is a great example of what workers can achieve through the collective bargaining process,"‎ says UFCW Canada Local 206 President Wayne Hanley. "The Residence Inn members stood up to their employer and bargained an excellent first contract, and I'm happy to see that their courage and hard work has paid off," Brother Hanley adds.
