UFCW Canada – BDM Scholarship Winner: Maggie Hallows

Brownsville, Ont. – March 21, 2015 – Maggie Hallows is one of eighteen UFCW Canada – BDM Scholarship winners for 2014. Currently in her first year of the General Arts and Science Program at Fanshawe College, and specializing in First Nations Studies, Maggie is a proud UFCW Canada Local 175 member who works at the Metro grocery store in Tillsonburg, Ontario.

"This scholarship means a lot to me, as it is the stepping stone towards my future," says Sister Hallows. "I am hoping to continue my education at the university level, where I would like to pursue a dual major in First Nations Studies and Political Science," she adds. "This scholarship will ensure that I can go to university and continue on my journey, and I am so grateful to UFCW Canada for assisting me with this endeavor."

Every year UFCW Canada offers a total of eighteen union scholarships worth $1,000 each to members, their spouses, and dependants for post-secondary education. The BDM scholarship was created to honour past UFCW leaders William Beggs, Fred Dowling, and Roméo Mathieu.
