Members at Cineplex Courtney Park achieve new contract – UFCW 1000A

Mississauga, Ont. – February 20, 2015 – UFCW Canada Local 1000A members at Cineplex Cinemas Courtney Park in Mississauga, Ontario have achieved a new collective agreement.

The new contract provides wage increases and language improvements and runs until 2016. In addition to increases throughout the term of the collective agreement, other key gains include student leave language, which enables students to apply to maintain their rate of pay and seniority if they are going to a post-secondary institution which is 60 kilometers or more away, and/or live in residence.

Additionally, the bargaining committee achieved language that ensures that union stewards will be able to meet with new hires within two weeks of their employment, to provide the new members information about their rights under the collective agreement.

"It is a fair contract which provides us with a good foundation to build upon for the future," said UFCW Canada Local 1000A President Pearl Sawyer.

This is the second agreement for workers at Cineplex Courtney Park since 2008, when Local 1000A was certified as the bargaining agent for the theatre's workers.
