2014 UFCW Canada – BDM Scholarship Winner: Mohamed Ugas, UFCW Local 333

Toronto – January 21, 2015 – Mohamed Ugas is one of eighteen UFCW Canada – BDM Scholarship winners for 2014. Currently in his third year studying Health Sciences and History at the University of Toronto, Mohamed is a proud UFCW Canada Local 333 member who works at G4S in security services.

"For students of a working class background such as myself, whose parents cannot provide all the money needed for their tuition, it necessitates that we work to make ends meet," says Brother Ugas. "My unionized job contributes greatly to the costs of my university education, but the amount of time I must dedicate to my studies makes it difficult to take on a substantial workload. Scholarships such as the UFCW Canada – BDM scholarship help me meet my needs without adversely affecting my goals in school. I am extremely grateful for having been awarded it."

Every year UFCW Canada offers a total of eighteen union scholarships worth $1,000 each to members, their spouses, and dependants for post-secondary education. The BDM scholarship was created to honour past UFCW leaders William Beggs, Fred Dowling, and Roméo Mathieu.

Applications for the 2015 UFCW Canada – BDM Scholarship are now open. To find out more about this renowned union scholarship, or to apply online, click here.
