UFCW Canada communications efforts win nine ILCA AwardsToronto – October 22, 2014 – UFCW Canada’s leading-edge communications have once again been honoured by the International Labour Communications Association (ILCA) — the professional organization of labour communicators in North America.

Canada’s most progressive union was recognized with three first-place ILCA 2014 awards, and a total of nine awards of excellence for its web, print, writing, audio, and social media efforts.

The ILCA Awards are presented annually to honour the very best in print and electronic communications by North American labour organizations, with hundreds of national and Local Unions across the continent competing for the awards.

UFCW Canada’s twice-weekly DIRECTIONS was honoured with the 2014 ILCA Award for Best Electronic Newsletter. 100 Years of Solidarity, an original UFCW Canada CD of new as well as refreshed labour songs written and performed by a new generation of activists, also won a top ILCA Award, as Best Long Audio Program. Harper’s Growing Scandal won first-place honours in the category of Best Infographic.

Six additional ILCA Awards were awarded to UFCW Canada for its internet, social media, electronic, and visual and communications excellence. UFCW.ca received two second-place ILCA Awards for Best Internet Content and Best Internet Design. The Facebook site of Students Against Migrant Exploitation (S.A.M.E.) received second-place honours for Best Use of Social Media (facebook.com/samegroup), as did the UFCW Canada original poster for World Mental Health Day in the category of Best Illustration. Another UFCW Canada poster – Human Rights Dayalso received Best Illustration honours with a third-place award. 100 Years of Solidarity also received additional ILCA recognition with a third-place award in the category of Best Electronic Media/Labour History.

UFCW Canada Locals 175 & 633 were also honoured in the ILCA competition in the Local Unions category with Checkout September 2013 recognized with a third-place award for Best Design Magazine, and a third-place General Excellence award for the UFCW Locals 175 & 633 website.
