UFCW 1518 in solidarity with Metro Vancouver Alliance

Vancouver – August 16, 2014 – Recently, UFCW Canada Local 1518 activists joined more than 650 Metro Vancouver social justice allies for the Metro Vancouver Alliance's first Founding Assembly. While it was the first-ever assembly of all the members, the Metro Vancouver Alliance MVA was actually launched in 2009, with Local 1518 as one of its founding members.

The MVA is a coalition of citizens’ groups working together for the common good.  It is a nonpartisan, non-profit organization that represents many constituencies – faith groups, community advocates and cooperatives, educational institutions (staff and students) and organized labour – all pushing together for government action to address poverty, affordable housing, access to public transit, and the challenges facing the socially isolated.

"We're proud to be a founding member of the MVA," says UFCW Canada Local 1518 President Ivan Limpright. "The Metro Vancouver area is the home of thousands of Local 1518 members. Our work through the MVA is another way to support the members in building a better future, not only where they work, but also in their community."

MVA offers training sessions for community leadership free to anyone who belongs to its member organizations, including UFCW Canada Local 1518 members. You can find out more about the Metro Vancouver Alliance here.
