New video by Operation Maple illustrates everyday value of taxes

A new video by Operation Maple provides a counterview to the anti-tax rhetoric of Canada's conservative movement. The clip shows that part of the reason why the average citizen believes they "dislike" taxes is because many of us do not understand that our tax dollars go toward everyday services that we often take for granted things like hydro provision, food regulation, and garbage pickup.

The video centres around a young man who claims that he doesn't have a view on taxes because he doesn't use any public services. It then follows him throughout his day and reveals that he relies on clean water regulation to brush his teeth, regular road maintenance to ride his bike, and public health care to recover from a self-induced cycling accident. When the young man realizes that these valuable services are threatened by tax cuts and privatization, he quickly changes his mind about the importance of taxes.
